Postgraduate Travel Fund & Collins Kitchin Fund - Research Students Only

1) The Postgraduate Travel Fund  is a discretionary fund that exists as a flexible method of facilitating the research endeavors of the NUI Maynooth academic community.
2) A central purpose of the fund is to encourage active participation by research students in the conferences of learned societies. It is also designed to fund students to acquire accredited taught modules offered in Universities outside Ireland where they have been approved as part of their structured PhD. The conditions under which such funding is made available are outlined below.
3) Conditions - Research Student Funding.
a)    Applicants must be registered for a research degree at NUI Maynooth.

b)    Applications must be made in advance of the conference/module.
c)    Applications will only be considered where the student will be presenting a paper or displaying a poster at the conference, or is attending a module accredited in their structured PhD.
d)    Formal notification of the acceptance of a paper or poster by the conference organizers must accompany the application, or evidence of registration to an accredited module.
e)    The applicant's supervisor must support the application by writing a brief letter of recommendation. The supervisor should comment on the significance of the conference and the efforts made by the applicant to secure funding or on the relevance of their module to their research.
f)    Students who have External Funding for attendance at conferences are not eligible to apply i.e IRCSET or IRCHSS
g)  Research students will not be funded for more than one conference during their course of study.
h)  A copy of the paper or poster must be submitted to the Office of Research & Graduate Studies after the conference, or in the case of taking a module a grade must be submitted on their examination record.
4)  Grant levels and draw down - Research Student Funding
a)    The maximum grant amounts available under this Fund are as follows:
Presenting a Paper

Presenting a Poster

Mainland Europe                      €200
USA / Other                              €300

Taking a Module in a University outside of Ireland
UK                                            €300
Mainland Europe                      €400

b)    Original receipts must be submitted to the Office of Research & Graduate Studies
5)    Acknowledgment of financial support from the Postgraduate Travel Fund NUI Maynooth is required on papers and posters. 

How to apply:

For a Paper or Poster Presentation

Please provide us with a letter indicating details of the conference you are attending, whether you are presenting a paper or a poster, the date of the conference and confirmation from the conference that you have been accepted on. This fund is only open to those that are either presenting a paper or a poster at a conference. You will also need to provide us with a letter of support from your Supervisor. Please attach this to your application and hand deliver this to the Graduate Studies Department, John Hume Building, 3rd floor, North Campus. Applications are looked at on a month by month basis.

For Taking a Module

Please provide us with a letter indicating details of the module you are taking, the date of the module and confirmation from the University in question that you have been accepted onto the module. You will also need to provide us with a letter of support from your Supervisor and Head Head of Department. Please attach this to your application and hand deliver this to the Graduate Studies Department, John Hume Building, 3rd floor, North Campus. Applications are looked at on a month by month basis.

Collins-Kitchin Postgraduate Travel Fund

Open to all postgraduate students registered in the Social Science Faculty ONLY, offering individual travel awards up to 600 euro.  
The awards will cover or contribute towards travel, accommodation and registration costs for attending a conference. Applications should conform to the rules and procedures of the postgraduate travel fund operated by Graduate Studies (see above). Please clearly state on your application that you are interested in the Collins-Kitchin Fund.
