The John and Pat Hume Research Scholarships are offered each year as funding support for new PhD students across all Departments of the University.
Since its launch in 2005, almost 200 students have received the funding which aims to attract top quality research students into the NUI Maynooth Graduate School, and to provide initial support to research students commencing their PhD. In the previous round of the competition, the John and Pat Hume Scholarships provided funding for 26 students commencing a PhD from October 2011.
Applicants for the Hume Scholarship should first make contact with a NUI Maynooth Department or Research Institute to discuss their suitability for a PhD programme. The Hume Research Scholarships are open to all new PhD applicants with a first class honours undergraduate degree or Masters degree. In the Faculty of Science and Engineering, applicants may hold an upper second class honours primary degree with a first in the proposed discipline or a first in their research project.
