Guiding you through your PhD and Research Masters
At NUI Maynooth, all research students are on a Structured Research Programme. This is a specific programme of research agreed between you and your supervisor giving your the opportunity to take modules that support your research and to prepare you for your chosen career.
The following information will assist you throughout your research programme. It includes information and forms required, and explains your research student journey, from your Initial Meeting with your supervisor, registration for modules, modules available and thesis submission.
The Structured PhD is made up of 360 credits over a four year period (or part-time over a six year period) and the requirement for taught credits is listed below:

Master's By Research Programme
A student must take a minimum of 10 credits in taught modules (at least 5 in generic/transferable modules and at least 5 in subject specific/advanced specialist modules) from the Departmental/ Institutional Structured PhD programme.
